The four ways to translate a phone call

What each option needs from you, and from the person on the other end.

A translated call link

You create a Bridgecall link, they open it in a browser. Both sides hear their own language on any phone, and nothing is installed on their end.

Built-in phone features

Pixel and Samsung phones can translate calls on the device. It covers your side only, needs one of those phones, and the other person hears a synthetic voice with no way to answer in their language.

Translator earbuds

Built for face-to-face exchanges. On a phone call they still route through an app on your phone, and the person you call gets nothing translated.

A human interpreter on the line

Phone interpreting services add an interpreter to a three-way call. Right for medical and legal conversations, priced per minute and rarely available on the spot.

How to translate a phone call, step by step

Three steps from your side. The person you call does not install or sign up for anything.

01

Create a call link and pick both languages

Open Bridgecall, choose your language and theirs, and create a private call link.

02

Send the link by WhatsApp, SMS or email

They tap it and land in the call from their browser, on any phone or computer.

No app install

03

Talk in full sentences, then pause

The translated voice plays about a second after each sentence, in both directions. Keep the camera off if you only need voice.

Create one link, send it, and let the other person join from any device.

When you need a translated phone call

Situations where the other person will never install anything.

Weekly calls with parents or grandparents abroad who speak another language.

A client, tenant or supplier who answers in their own language.

Arranging a booking, a repair or a delivery in a country where you do not speak the language.

A voice-only conversation where a camera would get in the way.

What makes or breaks a translated call

The translation engine is rarely the problem. How the two people talk, and what the microphone hears, decides whether the conversation flows.

Speak in full sentences and pause. The translated voice plays about a second after you stop, so a natural rhythm is two short sentences, then a beat.

Hold the phone normally or use earphones. Speakerphone in a noisy room feeds the translated voice back into the microphone.

Pick the right variant of the language, such as Brazilian or European Portuguese and Mexican or Castilian Spanish, before the call starts.

Repeat names, addresses and numbers once. They are the words translation gets wrong most often.

Tolk app icon

Not a call, but a conversation in the room? That's Tolk.

Bridgecall translates calls. For a conversation happening right next to you, we built Tolk: an iPhone app that listens hands-free and speaks the translation out loud in both directions, in 50+ languages.

Made for people who just need the call to work

Real conversations across family, work, travel, and practical calls where one link matters.

Frequently asked questions

The questions people ask before their first translated call.

Can Google Translate translate a phone call?

Not a call between two phones. Conversation mode needs both people in the same room with one device between them. Live call translation exists on a few Pixel and Samsung phones, and there it only covers your side of the call on your device.

Does the other person need an app?

With Bridgecall, no. You send a private link and they open it in their browser. That is the whole point for parents abroad, clients and suppliers who will never install anything.

Can I translate a WhatsApp call?

Not inside WhatsApp itself. The practical route is to send a Bridgecall link through WhatsApp and take the call there. The conversation is translated both ways and the other person still only taps a link.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Bridgecall runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop, and there are Bridgecall apps for iPhone and Android if you prefer.

How accurate is real-time call translation?

Good enough for real conversations when people speak in full sentences and one at a time. Names, addresses and numbers are worth repeating, and a quiet room with a headset or a normally held phone beats speakerphone.

Is there a free phone call translator?

The person you call never pays and never signs up. On your side Bridgecall starts with a 7-day trial, after which plans include translated minutes, live voice and subtitles.
